Sebastian Fishing Museum
9700 S Hwy A1A, Vero Beach, FL 32963 | 321-984-4852
The Sebastian Fishing Museum showcases the super-rich Sebastian and local Indian River Lagoon fishing industry history by displaying video presentations, fishing gear, pictures, and commercial dock and fish house replicas. This museum is dedicated to educating the public about the rich culture of Sebastian’s fishing industry history, the life story of Sebastian locals, and how it is interwoven with the Indian River Lagoon and fishing. The Lagoon provided many of Sebastian’s early resident’s transportation, food, and livelihood means.
The city of Sebastian is what it is today thanks to the commercial fishing industry, and that’s why The Sebastian Fishing Museum commemorates Sebastian’s early families that operated fish houses: Judah, Sembler, and Smith. Inside the SFM, you will find an original fish house and dock replica, the traditional industry’s heart. There is a homemade fishing boat, fishing gear, nets, and photos of fishing in the Indian River Lagoon.
A 25-minute video presentation is available, and it displays the history and vast diversity of the Indian River Lagoon wildlife. Although the Sebastian Fishing Museum is physically located on Orchid Island, the Indian River County side of the park, it showcases exhibits of the local fishing industry and its influence throughout the area.
